WHO WE ARE

Climate change is disproportionately harming LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals around the world.

Fossil fuel companies are co-opting the struggle for LGBTQIA+ liberation to sanitise their own image. They are doing this by associating with progressive movements such as our Pride celebrations. Meanwhile these companies profit from destroying the environment, damaging people’s health, and driving people from their homes.

LGBTQIA+ Pride events exist for us, to celebrate our community, history and struggle. There is no place in Pride for companies that hurt our friends and our siblings across the globe. This has always been a struggle for justice for ALL of us.

In recognition of the climate emergency we are in, disproportionately harming LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals around the world, we are calling for Pride celebrations to pledge:

  • To adopt a publicly available ethical sponsorship policy

  • To refuse to accept sponsorship from or partnership with fossil fuel companies

  • To refuse to accept sponsorship from or partnerships with financial institutions funding fossil fuel companies

WHAT WE DO

Our Vision, Mission, Aims

Vision:

We are working towards a future where no Prides accept sponsorships from fossil fuel companies or the banks that fund them. That’s a future we can be proud of.

Mission:

We are pushing Prides to sign our pledge not to accept sponsorships from fossil fuel companies or the banks that fund them. In doing this, we are following the same examples of existential struggles of reimagining, reconfiguring, and radical intervention that fill the rich history of our queer movement. As LGBTQIA+ people, we see an urgent role for us in the climate movement, we believe fossil fuels must remain in the ground, and we say that no fossil fuel corporation should have a place at Pride.

Aims:

  • Get major prides sign the pledge this year.

  • Increase awareness of the relationship between fossil fuel companies and pride events.

  • Amplify LGBTQIA+ voices in the climate justice movement.

  • Set up local Fossil Free Pride chapters and develop organising resources.
